When is the shoe drive?

This year’s shoe drive is May and June.  But, shoes can be donated anytime.  Contact us for a pick up.

What types of shoes can be donated?

In short, all gently worn, new and used shoes are accepted.  The goal is  5,000 pair (pounds) of shoes.  Basically, if the shoes are in good enough condition for a garage sale, they are perfect for the shoe drive.

Shoes are needed for women, men, children, toddlers, and babies.

    • Dress shoes, flats, heels, etc.
    • Work boots, dress boots, hiking boots, etc.
    • Tennis shoes, HiTops, and Sneakers of any kind
    • Sports Shoes such as Roller skates, Ice Skates, Cleats, Cheer, Golf, Soccer, Baseball, etc.
    • Dance Shoes such as Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap
    • Summer Shoes such as Flip Flops, Sandals

If you are in doubt, ask yourself this one question.  Does this item go on or over your feet and are not socks?  If the answer is YES, then they can be donated to the shoe drive.  If in doubt, donate the footwear and we will pass it on if it does not qualify.

Where do I find shoes to donate?

The first stop for finding shoes to donate is to check your closets, garage, sports gear, winter items, etc.

But, there are many other places you can find shoes as well.

    • Host your own mini shoe drive at work, youth group, scout troop, church, school, etc.  Have a friendly competition between various branch offices, departments, grade levels, etc.  See mini shoe drive below.
    • Watch for garage sales in your area.  Ask them if they would be willing to donate any left over shoes to the shoe drive.
    • If you regularly go to a gym or activity center, ask them if they would host a drop off site for the shoe drive.  We will make sure the shoes are picked up as we track how many came from each location.
    • If you shop at a consignment sale, ask them if they have are donating unsold shoes to anyone.  If they are not, or the recipient only takes certain shoes, let them know we will take what is left.
    • When someone is moving in or out of a home, ask them if they have shoes they no longer need.  This is great for real estate agents.

Make sure to bring a copy of the tax deductible receipt with you.

What is a mini shoe drive?

In short, you are running your own shoe drive.

    • Contact us to setup your own mini shoe drive
    • Select a nonprofit or group you work with to receive funding toward a financial life skill workshop or summer camp
    • Promote your shoe drive now and during May & June
    • Have fun with a friendly competition between branch offices, departments, grade levels, classrooms, etc.
    • Each week, give us an update so we can include your shoes in the total.
    • Contact us to pick up or drop off your shoes
    • The designated nonprofit will receive workshop funding credit based on the number of shoes collected.

Where can I drop off the shoes?

There are several drop off locations.  To find one close to you, please check either the LIST VIEW or the MAP VIEW.

If there are no locations near you or you would like to host a drop off site, please contact us.

What happens to the shoes?

We will tie or rubber band shoes together in pairs.  The shoes are then placed into 30 gallon clear 1.2ml trash bags, 25 pair to a bag.

On the specified day, the shoes are picked up and taken to Funds2Orgs in Miami, FL where they are cleaned up and repaired.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations.

How do the shoes help?  Watch their video

Using the shoes, Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school.

A pair of dress shoes means a person can go to work and earn money to provide for their family.  A pair of tennis shoes means a child can go to school and gain an education.

How does Moneytalk benefit?

We love doing this shoe drive because, in order for us to be successful, we have to focus on helping someone else.

Funds2Orgs donates $0.40 per pound to Moneytalk for the fundraiser portion of the shoe drive.  If we are under 2,500 pounds, Funds2Orgs will keep $250 to help with shipping costs.

The money raised by the shoe drive is used to help provide workshops, summer camp, and promote the nonprofit in order to connect with other nonprofit organizations and potential corporate and individual sponsors.  Any mini shoe drive funds will be used toward covering the cost of the workshops at the designated location.
